Liftlock Paddle

Liftlock Paddle Co.

Liftlock Paddle Co. is a local company providing kayak, canoe, and SUP rental services in Little Lake, Peterborough, Ontario. They are dedicated to offering accessible and enjoyable water-based activities that connect people with the natural beauty of the area.

For this project, I designed a logo that reflects Liftlock Paddle Co.’s mission while celebrating its deep connection to Peterborough’s local heritage. The concept draws inspiration from one of the city’s most iconic landmarks—the Peterborough Lift Lock National Historic Site. As the highest hydraulic lift lock in the world and the first of its kind in North America, the structure stands as a powerful symbol of innovation, history, and community pride.

The final design balances modern simplicity with meaningful detail. At its core is a stylized representation of the Lift Lock towers, rendered in clean, geometric lines to preserve recognizability while giving the mark a contemporary edge. In the foreground, the silhouette of a paddler in motion conveys energy, exploration, and the adventurous spirit of outdoor life on the Trent-Severn Waterway.

By merging the thrill of paddling with the architectural presence of the Lift Lock, the logo creates a visual identity that is both timeless and memorable. It resonates with residents who recognize their city’s heritage while inviting visitors to experience Peterborough’s scenic waterways and outdoor culture.

The logo features a bold, yet approachable font for "Liftlock Paddle Co.," reinforcing the brand's friendly and professional persona. The word "Peterborough" is placed below, flanked by maple leaves, to emphasize local pride and Canadian identity.
